An Evening of Ghosts & Legends in Tunbridge Wells

This October sees the launch Tunbridge Wellness' new ‘After Dark’ series, beginning with an evening of Kent’s ghosts, folklore and strange stories

If you're looking for a sophisticated way to kick off spooky season, then this is it!

A new event series exploring fascinating ideas, stories and subjects in intimate spaces across Tunbridge Wells is launching this Autumn, beginning with an evening devoted to the ghosts, legends and strange stories of Kent.

Tunbridge Wellness After Dark: Conscious Sessions will open on Thursday 22 October 2026 at The Old Auction House on The Pantiles, with folklorist, author and lecturer Dr Geoff Doel delving into some of Kent’s stranger stories, exploring ghosts and legends, folk belief, mysterious characters and tales.

The evening will combine an illustrated talk with an audience Q&A, offering guests the opportunity to ask questions and explore some of the stories in greater depth. A small number of copies of Dr Geoff Doel's book, Folklore of Kent, will also be available to purchase on the night.

Lucy Jessop, founder of Tunbridge Wellness, said: “I wanted Conscious Sessions to create space for people to come together around ideas that are genuinely fascinating, whether they relate to folklore, spirituality, psychology, creativity, culture or wellbeing. Geoff felt like the perfect person to launch the series because Kent has such a rich folklore tradition, and there are so many stories hiding in plain sight.”

Rather than a formal lecture, the evening is designed to be informal and intimate, bringing storytelling, local history and curiosity together in the atmospheric surroundings of The Old Auction House.

Conscious Sessions will become a regular event series from Tunbridge Wellness, with future sessions exploring a range of subjects from folklore and spirituality to culture, creativity, psychology and wellbeing.
